"And the word of the LORD was precious in those days..."

1 Samuel 3:1 NIV
(1) The boy Samuel ministered before the LORD under Eli. In those days the word of the LORD was rare; there were not many visions.

1 Samuel 3:16-17 NIV
(16) but Eli called him and said, "Samuel, my son." Samuel answered, "Here I am."
(17) "What was it he said to you?" Eli asked. "Do not hide it from me. May God deal with you, be it ever so severely, if you hide from me anything he told you."

Notice here, Eli's attitude toward the word of the Lord. It was a precious thing to him. Even though God had pronounced judgment on Eli's family, and Eli knew it, he wanted to know every last word the Lord had said, so much that he pronounced a curse if Samuel withheld it from him.

When is the last time you saw someone with that attitude towards God's word? Do you wait and long to hear from God? Today, we have the word of God, the Bible, at our disposal. We read it whenever we want. We can hear it being proclaimed at the click of a button.

May we treasure hearing the word of God, and our access to hear it and proclaim it to others. May we long for every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matt. 4:4).

The Gospel

Have you heard Christ died for our sins, and God raised Him from the dead? Did you know God saves you from hell and gives you eternal life through faith in this finished work alone, not your merits (Jn. 3:16; 1 Cor. 15:1-3; Eph. 2:8-10; 2 Thess. 1:8-9)? This is so man cannot boast, and God alone gets the glory (Eph. 2:8-9).

The grand purpose of creation is to bring glory and pleasure to God in Christ (Eph. 1:1-10; Rev. 4:11). The gospel of Christ's death and resurrection for our sins, achieves this goal by magnifying God's grace and mercy towards undeserving sinners. The purpose of faithguard, is to glorify God, by defending and confirming the gospel of Jesus Christ.
