Faith Comes By Hearing God's Word: A Devotional From 2 Kings 7:1

Text: 2 Kings 7:1, 18-20

Elisha said, "Hear the word of the LORD. This is what the LORD says: About this time tomorrow, a seah of flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria."  2 Kings 7:1

It happened as the man of God had said to the king: "About this time tomorrow, a seah of flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria." The officer had said to the man of God, "Look, even if the LORD should open the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen?" The man of God had replied, "You will see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of it!" And that is exactly what happened to him, for the people trampled him in the gateway, and he died.  2 Kings 7:18-20

Salvation comes through the word of God.  (2 Kings 7:1). God promised deliverance would come, and that the famine would end in one day.  God sends men to proclaim His word, and it is by hearing this message that men may have saving faith in Him (cf. Romans 10). The officer heard the promise and did not believe (7:2).  Consequently, he saw but did not enjoy the benefits of God's salvation, and was trampeled to death (18-20). Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Rom. 10:17). Are you a believer?  The gospel is the power of God unto salvation (Rom. 1:16).  Proclaim it to others.  Tell them Christ died for their sins, and that God raised Him from the dead (1 Cor. 15:3-4).  Are you an unbeliever? Believe the good news and be saved.  Rely on Christ's death and resurrection for your sin, to make you right with God.

The Gospel

Have you heard Christ died for our sins, and God raised Him from the dead? Did you know God saves you from hell and gives you eternal life through faith in this finished work alone, not your merits (Jn. 3:16; 1 Cor. 15:1-3; Eph. 2:8-10; 2 Thess. 1:8-9)? This is so man cannot boast, and God alone gets the glory (Eph. 2:8-9).

The gospel of Christ's death and resurrection for our sins, achieves this goal by magnifying God's grace and mercy towards undeserving sinners. The purpose of faithguard, is to glorify God, by defending and confirming the gospel of Jesus Christ.
